About Me

Just another mom out here trying not to panic…

Things I like:

  • My husband Phil
  • Our boys: Adam, Aaron, and Keith
  • Cheesecake – pretty much any kind is great, although I prefer the pure and plain
  • Books, bookstores, libraries – I could live there
  • Time with friends – especially my YaYa girlfriends and my nerdy-techno friends at work
  • Time to myself – gotta have a chance to process things and tap away on my laptop
  • Bagels – and basically anything else from the Atlanta Bread Company
  • Trains – a great way to travel
  • My job – best I’ve ever had (Instructional Tech Specialist for a school system)
  • NYC – love the energy and interesting ethnic mix / love the walking / love the plays (who wouldn’t??)
  • Music from the 60′s and 70′s, including the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Peter Paul & Mary, Paul Simon, ABBA, Judy Collins, James Taylor – you get the idea. My tastes probably stem from the fact that the radio in my car has been broken for an amazingly long time. The only thing it picks up now is one religious talk station and one country music station, both of which are disturbing on so many levels. While this can be a minus, it also has a bright side: I am not subjected to the music my kids like either.
  • Mountains – as long as I’m just looking at them and not driving up the sides of them
  • Figs, dates, grapes, and pomegranates
  • Anne Lamott’s books, especially Traveling Mercies and Operating Instructions
  • The smell of buttercups, honeysuckle, and roses in the springtime
  • Brown eyes
  • That great gas they give you at the dentist’s office – I’ll fly away, oh glory, I’ll fly away…
  • Scrabble and Balderdash
  • Moon pies heated up in the microwave (the ultimate s’more!)
  • Photography
  • Heather Armstrong’s blog
  • Writing
  • Billy Crystal, Jerry Seinfeld, The Office, Monk

Things I DON’T like:

  • Shopping of any kind – especially shopping with other people
  • Driving long distances – makes me sleepy
  • Being in a hurry all the time – which is almost every day, it seems
  • Noisy, frenetic, barking dogs
  • Noisy, frenetic, barking children
  • Really cold weather – or really hot weather either, for that matter
  • TVs on all the time – no need for the obnoxious background noise
  • People of either gender who pee on toilet seats – yuck!
  • Hamburgers and other big chunks of meat
  • Soft drinks and other fizzy beverages that burn my mouth
  • Cigarettte smoke
  • People who obsess about money and possessions – who cares???
  • Salads that try to pass for meals
  • Anything with mint, especially peppermint and spearmint
  • Card games, most any board game
  • Video arcades (my idea of hell), skating rinks, and loud restaurants
  • Middle-aged men who wear their shirts open at the neck, apparently thinking that chest hair + gold chains = appealing. They are grossly mistaken. And I mean grossly.

  1. So – you must have known that you would receive at least this comment – At least you have ONE day for Fall Break! The rest of us just keep on turning the wheels of commerce.
True, it does seem that the theme of “Rawhide!” is somehow appropriate to our daily lives – Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, keep those doggies rollin’, Rawhide!
Cut ‘em out, ride ‘em in.
Ride ‘em in, cut ‘em out.
Cut ‘em out, ride ‘em in.
    Rawhide!
I think the juxtaposition of Rawhide and hyacinths about says it for me.

  2. Love the single mom trying not to panic line. 24 hours and 5 books sound heavenly. You go, girl.

  3. So, you don’t like noisy, frenetic barking dogs; you would love my poodle, Pepe. He is the most lovable little fur ball you’ll ever see. He plays ball like a pro and if I didn’t know his previous owner was an honorable, ethical gentleman, I would believe he had him on steroids.

I do hope Keith will be happy with a not so
lively fake dog under the Christmas tree.

  4. I like the picture… I feel like I’ve learned alot about you Ms Cindy. You are an amazing women.

  5. Hi! My Sister (Carolin Wolfe) and I were talking today and she told me about you and how much she enjoyed your recent visit together. I’ve never looked at a Blog before- Yeah, me and Madonna- just like virgins! I really enjoyed it and will have to look more often. That’s so great about your teen novel! I know the tendency artists of all kinds have to examine again and again. A graphic artist friend of mine does a lot of illustrations of insects and I’ve accused her of not releasing a painting until details of damselfly wings can hold up under the scrutiny of a microscope! Best Wishes- Deb
